Now That Is Some Offense!!

We all wanted the Phillies to break out of their hitting slump and start pounding the ball well this weekend we definitely got our wish.  Twice the Braves took five run leads in both games and twice the Phillies battled back and took the games. 22 runs in the past two games is phenomenal, even if it is against the Braves who the Phillies have dominated all year long, but how about this stat line for you: the Phillies only hit 1 home run in the second game of the series that they won 10-9, which was the three run blast by Greg Dobbs, and the Phils hit 5 homers in the last game of the series, that they won 12-10. Chris Coste hit his 8th of the season, Victorino hit his 8th of the year also, Pat Burrell hit his 26th of the year, Jayson Werth hit his 14th, and Jimmy Rollins hit his 7th, so it seems that the Phillies are starting to get out of their slump and just in time as they are only one game off the Mets for the division lead now. The only bad thing that we saw in those two slugfests was that the starting pitching was horrendous. Cole Hamels got hit hard and he did not have help as the Phillies made a couple errors and new acquistion Joe Blanton is looking like a bust already and he has only pitched in two games for the Phils this year. He only got through two innings yesterday and he is supposed to be an innings eater.. HAHA WOW..Anyways the Phillies head to Washington after an off day Monday so hopefully the pitching can get back in order and the Phils can move on. Don't read in to much of what you hear about the Phillies discussing internally Manny Ramirez. Ramirez does have connections with Charlie Manuel but for the Phils to pick up that kind of contract they would have to send Burrell away and I don't see that trade happening because it does not make too much sense right now. IF the Phillies make a run at Ramirez it should be at the end of the season, but don't get me wrong Manny would be a solid acquisition for the Phils to make if they could pull off a deal, but also where would you play Manny? Manny would probably have to play in right field and I don't know if he would be willing to do that at this point in his career. I guess we will have to see what happens as the deadline approaches.
