Phillies In Trouble??

You would think the Phillies would have built momentum off of their stunning comeback of the Mets in the first game of the series right? Well instead the Phillies made the Mets starters look like aces out there. John Maine who has been up and down all year long came in and gave up only three runs to the Phillies and then Oliver Perez who is the face of inconsistency fans 12 Philly hitters!! 12 strikeouts for Perez, that is unbelievable and with a lineup like this the Phils easily should be leading the East at this point. The Phillies continue to waste phenomenal starting pitching. Don't get me wrong, Brett Myers didn't look phenomenal at all but once he settled down he actually started looking half-way decent. Jamie Moyer came in and the Phils wasted another quality start out of him. Seven innings of one-run ball and the Phillies can't hit Oliver Perez. You got to be kidding me. Cole Hamels easily should have at least 12-15 wins already this year with the way he has been pitching, but lack of run support has put his record at 9-6. He didn't even make the all-star team and with the numbers he had (i.e. under 2 era), he should have easily been an all star this year. If the Phillies don't start hitting the ball and scoring runs, they are going to watch the Mets run away with the East this year and they may even watch the up-start Florida Marlins pass them. The time to shine is now, with half of the season to play and three teams in contention in the East, the Phillies have to start getting consistent and win some games. Rumor has it that the Phillies may be trying to make a run at Matt Holliday, Xavier Nady, or even Jason Bay. I say they should have pulled the trigger on the deal for Holliday and Fuentes to come to Philly for Victorino, Happ, and two other solid prospects, however they should not trade Victorino for Bay or Nady. He is too valuable at this point and he is a very solid player who plays all three outfield positions. The Phillies may still need to make a move but they can't afford to be unintelligent just to get a deal done.
