Do the Sixers have enough to win in the East this year?

The question is pretty simple now. With the addition of Elton Brand to the lineup, do the Sixers have enough to win in the East this year. The Sixers have a great starting 5 now with the addition of Brand. They have always lacked a physical post player who can score and now they have one. You have Andre Miller running point, Andre Iguodala moves to shooting guard, the young gun Thaddeus Young can play small forward, Elton Brand at the power forward position, and Samuel Dalembert at center. Sounds pretty promising with those players starting and then you have Lou Williams, Reggie Evans, Jason Smith, and the rookie Mareese Speights coming off the bench. The Sixers have definitely vaulted themselves into the top echelon of the East with the Celtics, Pistons, and Magic. The only issues surrounding the Sixers right now is that Iguodala is not happy with his contract situation and now the Warriors may extend an offer to Lou Williams who is a vital piece to the Sixers bench. If the Sixers can resolve thse two issues, then the Sixers can be a force in the East, however if they don't resolve these problems and the Sixers lose Williams or Iguodala becomes a problem in the locker room, then the Sixers could be in trouble this year. I still believe the Sixers are a year away, they still need another piece to complete the puzzle, Brand was a great addition but you have to believe he will stay in the same form he displayed when he was healthy. If he doesn't then the Sixers big acquisition looks like a bust and a waste of money. A lot of what-ifs to consider with the Sixers this year, but make no mistake about it, this team is ready to play.

  1. I think Speights was a good pick up for Philly.  I'd imagine he'll get time at both the 4 and the 5 behind Brand and Dalembert.  As with any rookie, he'll need to add some beef, but he can put the biscuit in the basket.  He's long, he's got touch and can score with both hands.  He'll just need to work on his desire.  That'll come from the coach.

  2. Yes I agree with you, I watched him play at Florida because I live down here and he looked pretty solid all around player. He does need to beef up a little bit, but playing behind Dalembert and Brand will be good for him. He should learn a lot and he could be like Thaddeus Young. Young is already being counted on to start for Philly and he is very very young so this could be an interesting year for Philly.

  3. Right now, the 76ers are the fourth best team in the East behind Boston, Orlando, Pistons, and Cavs.

By the end of the season I believe we have a real shot at gaining ground on one or two of these teams for a home court first round playoff game...Can we win the East? that is going to be tough with the Celts out there but the defensive end needs to get stronger but it looks like the rebounding game thanks to Brand is Strong this year and it would help to add a shooter through a trade cause We need a 3 point threat...
