THE VALIANT PENGUINS ARE HANGING ON

Last night Pittsburgh authorities put out an APB for Sidney Crosby who has been missing since the series verses the Hurricanes.

Hey Sid the Kid is a great player and he has a great team around him. But they are not the Detroit Red Wings. But the Penguins made the most of their 20 shots on Chris Osgood netting 3 of them. They added an empty net goal to close the deal 4 - 2 over the powerful Red Wings.

Evegni Malkin played a very good game with 3 assists on the night. Pittsburgh's Maxime Talbot had a great game scoring 2 of the Penguins goals. Sergei Gonchar scored on of Pittsburgh's 2 power play goals.

Over Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury saved 27 of 29 shots and Chris Osgood kicked back 17 of 20 Pittsburgh shots.

Crosby was somewhat quiet again, but he did manage 3 shots on goal and 1 assist nonetheless.

For Detroit, they are a bit miffed as they managed 29 shots on goal but only found the net twice. Making matters worse, Detroit took only 3 shots in the 3rd and final period. The Penguins in contrast took 10 of their 21 shots in the final stanza and scored twice. That is quite a turn around.

Was this a case of Detroit running out of gas? Only time will tell, but they did have a beef with the NHL for scheduling back to back games with games 1 and 2. I think the NHL needs to do things like that.

As the series stands with Detroit holding a 2 to 1 series lead, Thursday night will be pivotal for Pittsburgh. They need to tie the series before they go back to Motor City. IS it still Motor City with all the auto manufacturers going belly up?

Anyhow, Pittsburgh needs to muster up more shots and more consistently throughout the game. Especially if they start peppering Osgood early. They also need to give their goalie, Fleury, more defense like they did in the 3rd period Tuesday.

Detroit on the other hand needs to put the pedal to the metal and keep the odd number breaks downs and the penalty killing needs to get better. Actually if they could avoid penalties that would help immensely.

This has the potential to be a good series now that Pittsburgh knows it can beat the mighty Red Wings.

Okay my first reaction to this was that you were being sarcastic.  When I realized you weren't I chuckled a bit because he has shown up to play every game and has had an impact on every game...In Carolina he was outplayed by one man by the name of Evgeni Malkin who casts a big fuckin shadow when he is at the top of his game...This sport is not basketball where you can simply go over stats and determine whether or not a player did well on a certain night. And you cannot have 31 pts. in a playoffs. and sweep the conference final without your entire team showing up to play especially your captain and 1st line center...did u actually watch the series?or even catch the highlights?

I really don't know how to begin arguing as there are so many reasons why Crosby has been doing GREAT EVERY SERIES. Let's chalk it up to you not really understanding the game if you do please discuss this series with me because it looks as if you just assume the wings will win and look at the stat sheet after the games then throw up a 5 min post you don't put much thought into.

Osgood is not truly ELITE unless you count playoffs only. the only time that truly matters is playoffs I know but thats a big word to casually throw out there especially when you got a team like the wings that bails osgood out on so many occasions. Osgood didn't even reach .900 sv% in this regular season. so cmon for a guy throwin out as many assumptions as you based on stats alone thats somethin to think about.
